Privacy Policy

Plain language summary: Droppie collects personal information to operate the platform — so customers can order, merchants can sell, and drivers can deliver. We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not share it with advertisers. We store it securely and you have the right to request its deletion at any time. The full details are below.

1. Who we are

Droppie is a commerce and delivery platform registered and operating in Zimbabwe. The platform comprises three applications: the Droppie customer app, the Droppie Merchant web and mobile application, and the Droppie Go driver application (collectively referred to as “the Platform”).

For the purposes of this Privacy Policy, “Droppie”, “we”, “us”, and “our” refer to the platform and its operators. “You” refers to any person who uses any part of the Platform, whether as a customer, merchant, or driver.

Our primary contact for privacy-related matters is: privacy@droppie.online

2. What information we collect

2.1 Information you give us directly

  • Full name and contact details — phone number and email address — provided when you create an account on any part of the Platform.
  • Delivery address and location — entered when you place an order as a customer, or registered when you set up a merchant store.
  • Payment information — Droppie does not store card numbers or mobile money PINs. Payment processing is handled by Paynow, which has its own data practices. We receive confirmation of payment, not raw payment credentials.
  • Identity documents — drivers are required to submit a copy of their driver's licence and a selfie photograph during the verification process. Merchants may be asked for basic business registration information.
  • Profile information — a profile name, photo (optional), and any other information you choose to add to your account.
  • Communications — if you contact Droppie support, we retain records of those communications to help resolve your query and improve the platform.

2.2 Information we collect automatically

  • Location data — with your permission, the Platform accesses your device location to show you nearby merchants, assign delivery jobs to drivers, and provide live order tracking. You can revoke location access at any time through your device settings, but this will limit core Platform functionality.
  • Device information — the type of device you use, operating system version, app version, and unique device identifiers. This helps us diagnose technical issues and ensure the app works correctly on your device.
  • Usage data — which features you use, how often you open the app, the sequence of actions you take within a session, and any errors or crashes that occur. This data is used to improve the Platform.
  • Transaction data — records of orders placed, products purchased, delivery completions, earnings for drivers, and payment confirmations. This data is the core operational record of the Platform.

2.3 Information from third parties

Paynow provides us with payment confirmation data when a transaction is completed. We do not receive raw payment credentials. If you choose to log in using a third-party authentication service, we may receive basic profile information from that service as permitted by your settings with that service.

3. How we use your information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes, each of which is necessary to operate the Platform or fulfil our legal obligations:

Operating the Platform: Processing orders, assigning drivers, facilitating payments, and enabling the core commerce and delivery functions of Droppie.
Account management: Creating and maintaining your account, verifying your identity where required, and enabling you to log in securely.
Customer support: Responding to queries, resolving disputes between customers and merchants, and investigating complaints or reports of misconduct.
Safety and fraud prevention: Detecting and preventing fraudulent orders, fake accounts, and misuse of the Platform. This includes analysing unusual patterns in transaction or usage data.
Driver verification: Checking that drivers who join Droppie Go hold valid licences and present credible identity information before they are permitted to accept delivery jobs.
Platform improvement: Analysing aggregated and anonymised usage data to understand how the Platform is being used, identify problems, and prioritise improvements.
Communications: Sending you order confirmations, delivery updates, account notifications, and — where you have opted in — information about new features or promotions.
Legal compliance: Meeting our obligations under Zimbabwean law, responding to lawful requests from authorities, and maintaining records as required by applicable regulations.

4. Who we share your information with

We do not sell your personal information to anyone. We do not share it with advertisers. The following are the limited circumstances in which your information is shared with others:

Other Platform participants — necessary for transactions

When a customer places an order, the merchant receives the customer's name and delivery address. When a driver accepts a job, they receive the pickup address (the merchant) and the delivery address (the customer). This sharing is the operational core of the Platform and cannot be opted out of while using the service.

Payment processors

Paynow receives the information necessary to process your payment. Their handling of that data is governed by their own privacy policy.

Service providers

We use third-party services for functions such as cloud hosting, app analytics, and customer support tooling. These providers access data only as necessary to provide their service to us and are required to maintain appropriate security standards.

Law enforcement and regulatory bodies

We will disclose personal information to law enforcement, courts, or regulatory authorities when required by Zimbabwean law or a valid legal process. Where permitted, we will notify affected users.

Business transfers

If Droppie is acquired, merged with another entity, or its assets are transferred, your data may be part of that transfer. We will notify you in advance of any such change.

5. How long we keep your information

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period thereafter, to allow for dispute resolution, legal compliance, and audit requirements.

Specifically: account information is retained for as long as your account exists. Transaction records are retained for a minimum of five years to comply with financial record-keeping requirements under Zimbabwean law. Driver verification documents are retained for the duration of the driver's active period on the Platform and for two years after their account is closed. Communications with support are retained for two years.

When you request account deletion, we delete or anonymise your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or necessary to resolve an outstanding dispute.

6. Your rights

AccessYou can request a copy of the personal information we hold about you at any time.
CorrectionIf any information we hold about you is inaccurate or incomplete, you can request that it be corrected.
DeletionYou can request that we delete your account and associated personal information, subject to legal retention requirements.
PortabilityYou can request your personal data in a structured, machine-readable format.
ObjectionYou can object to certain uses of your data, including direct marketing communications.
Withdraw consentWhere we rely on your consent to process your data, you can withdraw that consent at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing before the withdrawal.

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@droppie.online. We will respond within 30 days.

7. Security

We implement technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, loss, or alteration. These include encrypted data transmission, access controls limiting which personnel can view personal data, and regular security reviews. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you become aware of a security concern related to your Droppie account, contact us immediately at security@droppie.online.

8. Children

The Droppie Platform is not intended for use by persons under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe a minor has created an account on the Platform, please contact us at privacy@droppie.online and we will take steps to remove the account.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the Platform evolves. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or by email before the changes take effect. The “last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the date of the most recent revision. Continued use of the Platform after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
